Detection of Viruses in Prawns:

IHHNV Testing

The presence of two viral pathogens of prawns is regulated in Australia and their occurrence in all raw prawn imports is monitored by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS).

To that extent, all raw prawns imported into Australia require mandatory testing for the presence of Whitespot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) and Yellowhead Virus (YHV). IHHNV testing is no longer required, as of September 10, 2008, although testing for this virus is still available.

Advanced Analytical Australia is an AQIS approved testing authority for prawns and prawn products for WSSV, IHHNV and YHV. Our real-time PCR tests for these viruses are all fully NATA accredited.

In addition, we also offer a PCR test for Taura Syndrome Virus (TSV), freedom from which must be demonstrated for any country / zone seeking to export raw prawns and prawn products to to Australia.

Our staff are available to discuss all your testing needs from sampling through to a final NATA endorsed test report.

For more information or a quotation, call Attila Tottszer in Sydney on 02 98889077 or Andrew Bradbury in Brisbane, or contact us.
